Show Review: Carpenter and The Love Machine
Last night after being at the Ottawa Jazz Festival.
I went to Mavericks to see two bands which were
Carpenter (No not the 70s brother and sister duo)
The Love Machine
Carpenter was loud.
The lead singer kept doing alot of high kicking during the set.
The Love Machine was amazing as always.

Sorry to make this short.

Ottawa Jazz Festival so far… pt III
The day after Canada Day, feeling abit drained but I did go and check out the Ottawa Jazz Festival.
In previous Jazz Festival the festival ended on Canada Day but this year it is extended until this Sunday.
Well playing tonight were:
André Leroux Quartet

The 3 Tenors

Wayne Shorter Quartet

It was a nice night of jazz music.
Canada Day 2009
Yesterday I got a chance to take photos on Parliament Hill on Canada Day during the afternoon.
Seeing the dignitaries and politicians that were on hand.
It was a interesting experience seeing the “Prime Minister” and the Governor General.
It was a nervous experience being the first time doing this and not expecting it.
Enough of the politics, let’s get to the performances.
The one performance I was happy to see was Sarah McLachlan.
She sang Building A Mystery acoustically on her guitar.
No backing band or anything, simple Sarah.
Amazing performance and loved how she changed the f-word to messed up.

I forgot the other singers that played but will update it later when I find out.
Nico Archambault danced his way to the song of Hallelujah.

I was happy to see Said The Whale played with Hannah Georgas.
Brillant performance together.
Great to see Said The Whale do really well and play to a big crowd at Parliament Hill.

There were other singers/bands playing.
One was Marie-Mai but she sung mostly in French.
But she was good looking and had that stage presence.

Gregory Charles was very cheesy and it wasn’t really impress with that performance.
When the performances ended, all the artist gathered around to meet and greet the politicians.
While waiting to get a shot of either the “Prime Minister” or Governor General, walking up along was Sarah McLachlan.
I was excited to see her come to the media pit. Someone from CTV wanted to interview her.
Things went overdrive because no one expected her to come out.
Alot of the photographers were focused on her than the “Prime Minister” or Governor General.
I was so starstrucked to see her around
That was a fun Canada Day.
Tell me what you did on Canada Day this year?
Jazzfest on Canada Day
Yesterday was Canada Day besides being all starstruck seeing a famous singer (another post).
I went to the Ottawa Jazz Festival which was a free show on Canada Day.
This was my second best event at the Jazz Festival the first being Al Green.

I got to see Coeur de Pirate and she played at the OLG Stage.
It was so packed and second time seeing her.
You can tell she has big loyal following.
She finally had a full band this time and she was absolutely brilliant with the set.
I missed out the last song which she usually does a english song and I was told she did her version of Umbrella.
I hope she makes it for the Polaris Music Prize Short List.

Michael Kaeshammer which I got to see abit.
He was wow this time.
Last time I saw him was at a CBC Radio taping.
This time he sounded fun with his boogie woogie piano playing music.

Then later on I went to the Main Stage and saw Bell Orchestre for the second time.
Absolutely amazing set.
As mentioned before from their show at the First Baptist Church.
Reminds me of Arcade Fire but with no singing.
I hope they make it for the Polaris Music Prize Short List.
Such a great album.

Al Green @ Ottawa Jazz Festival
Wow! I just finished watching Al Green play a wonder concert at the Ottawa Jazz Festival.
This was my first time seeing this legend.
Fun and soulful.
He was throwing roses at the audience.

Love the medley of classic songs he sang like Sugar Pie, You Are Everything and alot of wonder classics.
What a fun time!!
Dancing up a storm!
I wonder who can top that at the Ottawa Jazz Festival?

Comment on this entry if you were at the show?
Michael Jackson: RIP
OK I am slow in mentioning this.
Just got back from the Ottawa Jazz Festival and having no internet there.
Hearing the new of Michael Jackson’s death is very shocking.
I never bought any of his albums but I know I should.
I am a 80s kid so I grew up listening and watching to tracks like Billie Jean, Bad, Thriller and others.
While the 90s was his so called waning days.
He is still the King of Pop in my opinion.
Its his music that people love him for. Not the whole weird “Wacko Jacko”/allegations that sort of known him for.
May he rest in heaven.
I could never do the Moonwalk.
Download this great megamix
