Green Go, go remix!

Green Go is a band from Guelph/Toronto.
Apparently from what I read about them, half of the members were in the defunct band Spymachine 16.
Their music is very electro-dance-alterna-punk sound.

Anyways Green Go did a remix project of bands they are friends with.
I am enjoying the remixes of:

They add a certain fun to these tracks.
Favorite of the remixes are:

Go check out the site
Can’t wait on whenever they have EP or LP coming out.
Remixing seems suited for them, its very neat and amazing.

CBC going to axe Radio 3???

Last night coming back from some poetry reading.
Checking my Facebook and I got this event that CBC might axe Radio 3.
I was freaking out when I read that.
Check out the Facebook event and join in and spread the word out.
How will I get by with my dose of Canadian Indie music?
I rarely listen to any of radio stations besides CBC Radio 1 because the stations seems to play alot of garbage.
Much Much and Much More Music does not play music videos alot.
I listen to Capital FM online from London UK because I love hearing British stuff.
Not going in depth with this, go on to this site and read the whole info.
Yes we are living in a bad economic times, its mostly the media that is freaking us out.
I just hope CBC doesn’t axe Radio 3, the only thing they should axe is….
I think they should axe the Sirius Satellite, who here actually owns one?
Put in ads on Radio 1 and 2? I say NO!!
I had a inkling of getting it but you can it get on the internet and its free and no crazy monthly charges.
Want to take action and save CBC and CBC Radio 3?
Go and sign this petition to save Radio 3.

Review: The Polytones and That’s The Spirit

Finally got time to listen to both albums by Ottawa bands
First being
The Polytone’s 2005 album “You and I Were Made Of Dynamite” (Reminds of the Cranberrie’s first album title)
Second being That’s The Spirit’s “Staying Places
Why I put those two together its because Ben Wilson is in both bands.
Listening to The Polytone’s album
Its a poppy rock fun album.
First time I saw them live I was kind of put on the spot while taken a photo of the lead singer while she was taking her sweater off.
Shows you that the band is upbeat and fun while they are live.
Favorite tracks: Souvenir, King of Siam, Broken Stems, After The Show and Songs That You’ll Never Sing.

Not sure when they will make a new album.
While we wait, we are introduced with Ben’s side project called That’s The Spirit.
Its very different from his other band’s stuff.
Its more acoustic folky-rock-poppy sound style.
Very Neil Young influence sound.
The album is very mellow, slow, acoustic and soft.
There is a theme of loneliness and saddness.
Favorite tracks: Orienteering, Head For The Hills, The Blue Of Distance, Epic Advice and Lost In The Middle 8.

To me I find The Polytones is the girl’s perspective while That’s The Spirit is the guy’s perspective.

Searchlight winner: Phog Lounge

Congrats to Tom (HEY THERE!) who runs the Phog Lounge.
The Phog Lounge is named the best indie venue of Canada by CBC Radio 3.

Wish I could go down to Windsor and attend for the live broadcast show.

Well wishes to them!

Review: Dan Mangan – Roboteering EP

I got a sneak peek of Dan Mangan’s March 2009 EP called Roboteering.
Its apparently a teaser for his upcoming sophomore album Nice, Nice, Very Nice.
I find the EP is a mix of happy and sad tracks.
Still has his folk-acoustic sound.
This time he sounds like he has a band now and its more upbeat with tracks like Robot and Sold.
You have the softer sounds with tracks like The Indie Queens are Waiting and Till I Fall.
I would have thought with the title he might be veering into electric territory.
Guess that isn’t the case, if it was he would be turning off alot of his fans.
Its a great EP and I can’t wait for the second album now.

Steven Page leaves BNL

What a shocker!
Steven Page left the band The Barenaked Ladies.
The band won’t be the same without him.
Its due to last summer’s drug charges that Steven Page face while the band was promoting the album Snacktimes! (which happened to be a children’s album).
I really love their song Brian Wilson from their first album Gordon.
Which I still have the original album cover. Makes me wonder how much its worth now?

Music in ads I

Yes we know about selling out with artists is a water cooler discussion but companies need to make the point across in selling stuff and music is one of them.
On the weekend I went to see The World’s Best Commercials 2008 (aka The London International Awards) at the Bytowne Theatre.
There were two ads that caught me by surprised since they used songs by my favorite bands/artist.
Here they are

This one is the Schwepps ad that used To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra with Patrick Watson
This ad won Gold for Best Cinematography

This one has the lovely song Little Waltz by Basia Bulat
This ad won Silver for Best Editing
